Quick answer: before you pay for a custom rubber washer, check the stock grid. We list 1,746 sizes, from 3/16" to 4" OD, with holes from 3/32" to 1-1/2" and thicknesses from 1/32" to 1/2", each in seven materials, and one of them is often close enough. If none fits, write a short specification: OD, ID, thickness, material, quantity and what the washer does. Then contact us with it, and we'll tell you what we can supply.
Custom parts usually cost more and take longer than stock ones, so the aim of this guide is to get you the right washer with the least special handling. That might be a listed size or a near size that works, or a clear spec that can be quoted in one round.
Step 1: Check the stock grid first
| OD band | OD range | ID (hole) range | Thickness range | Sizes listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 3/16" to 1/2" | 3/32" to 5/16" | 1/32" to 1/2" | 76 |
| Medium | 9/16" to 1" | 1/8" to 3/4" | 1/32" to 1/2" | 450 |
| Mid-large | 1-1/16" to 2" | 1/8" to 1-1/2" | 1/16" to 1/2" | 628 |
| Large | 2-1/4" to 4" | 1/8" to 1-1/2" | 1/16" to 1/2" | 592 |
ODs go up in mostly 1/16" or 1/8" steps to 2", then in 1/4" and 1/2" steps to 4". The size finder filters all of them by OD, ID and thickness, and the size chart shows the full grid on one page. Working in millimetres? Metric rubber washers gives the nearest inch size for each common metric bolt.
Step 2: Decide whether a near size will work
| Dimension | How much it can move | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ID (hole) | Least. Aim for a snug fit on the bolt or fitting | A loose hole lets the washer shift off-centre; a tight one tears when forced on |
| OD | Often a little either way | It only needs to cover the face and sit flat, without hitting a wall or counterbore |
| Thickness | One step up or down is often fine | Rubber compresses; check that the gap or stack height still works |
| Material | Not much. Choose for the environment | The wrong compound fails early, whatever the size |
If a near size works, you can order it straight from its product page, in small quantities or large. Bulk pricing applies automatically from 50 units across any mix of sizes.
Step 3: Write a specification we can quote
A complete spec saves a round of emails. Include:
| Item | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Outside diameter | 2-3/8" or 60 mm | Give the unit, and the decimal if you have it |
| Inside diameter | 1-1/8" | Say what it fits over: bolt, stud, pipe or fitting |
| Thickness | 3/16" | Measure a new part if you can; used washers compress |
| Material | EPDM | Or describe the exposure: water, oil, fuel, outdoors, heat, food contact |
| Shape | Flat round | Mention it if it isn't a flat round washer, e.g. a slot, a square or a shoulder |
| Quantity | 500 now, 2,000 a year | A one-off and a repeat order may be handled differently |
| Drawing or sample photo | Sketch with dimensions | A photo next to a ruler helps when the old part is worn |
| Deadline | Needed by a date | So we can say up front whether it's realistic |
Measure carefully. OD across the widest point, ID straight across the hole, thickness on the edge. How to measure a rubber washer shows each step.
Step 4: Pick the material by environment
| Exposure | Usual material |
|---|---|
| General purpose, weather and some oil | Neoprene |
| Outdoors: UV, ozone, water | EPDM |
| Oil, fuel, grease | Nitrile or Viton |
| Heat and food contact | Silicone (ask us to confirm the grade for food use) |
| Harsh chemicals and high heat | Viton |
| Vibration and impact | Natural rubber |
| Rigid, insulating gasket | Fiber |
The material comparison covers each in more detail. If you're unsure, describe the job in your request and we'll suggest a compound.
Buying for a plant, facility or product line
- Standardise first. Cutting a list of near-identical sizes down to a few listed ones simplifies reordering and makes the most of bulk pricing. See buying rubber washers in bulk.
- Order a sample. Listed sizes can be bought in small quantities, so check the fit and material on the real part before committing to volume.
- Keep a buffer of your highest-use sizes to avoid stoppages for maintenance.
- Group by material so reorders stay simple.
Most orders ship within 1–2 business days from our US warehouse, with tracking, and we currently ship within the United States (shipping policy).
FAQ
Can I order a custom size rubber washer?
Often, yes. If you don't see your exact OD, ID or thickness, contact us with your specification and we'll let you know what we can do.
What sizes can I order without a custom request?
Any of the 1,746 listed sizes: 3/16" to 4" OD, 3/32" to 1-1/2" ID, 1/32" to 1/2" thick, each offered in seven materials. Stock varies by size and material, and the product page shows what's available now.
Is there a minimum order?
Listed sizes are priced per washer, and each product page shows the minimum quantity for that size. For a custom size, tell us the quantity you need and we'll say what's possible. Bulk pricing applies automatically from 50 units across any mix of sizes.
Can you match a metric size?
Send the millimetre dimensions. Many metric needs are met by a listed inch size; see metric rubber washers.
Do you supply custom fiber washers?
Fiber is one of our seven materials, so the same process applies: check the listed sizes first, then send a spec for anything else.
Are you a rubber washer manufacturer?
We are a rubber washer specialist: washers are all we sell, in seven materials and over 1,700 listed sizes, shipped from our US warehouse.
