A dripping garden hose or outdoor tap is almost always a worn rubber washer at the connector - not a faulty hose. Swapping the washer is a two-minute fix that restores a tight seal and stops wasted water.
Why hose and tap washers fail
Constant water pressure, sun (UV) exposure, and repeated connecting and disconnecting flatten and crack the washer over time. Once it loses its shape it can no longer seal, and water seeps out at the coupling or spigot.
Best materials for outdoor water
For garden hoses, taps, and spigots, choose EPDM or Neoprene - both handle sustained water contact, sunlight, and weather without hardening. Avoid Natural Rubber outdoors (it degrades in UV); you only need Nitrile or Viton if oil or chemicals are involved.
Getting the right size
Hose and tap washers vary by fitting, so measure the old one before ordering: outside diameter (OD), inside diameter (ID), and thickness. Our measuring guide shows how, and the size chart lists every size we stock.
