Natural rubber (also called gum rubber) is prized for outstanding elasticity, tensile strength and abrasion resistance. It is one of the most economical sealing materials, which makes it a popular choice for high-volume, general-purpose washers — as long as the application stays away from oil, ozone and direct sunlight.

Best for
High-abrasion applications, low-cost general sealing and spacing, and vibration dampening where the washer is not exposed to oil or weather.
What to avoid
Avoid outdoor or UV-exposed use, oil and fuel contact, and ozone-rich environments. For those conditions choose EPDM for weather, Nitrile for oil and fuel, or Neoprene as a general all-rounder.
